They work in exactly the same way as a normal camera would. just integrated into a mobile phone instead of a normal camera device. Lens...curved piece of glass or plastic. Takes beams of light bouncing off them and puts them together to form a real image. Light waves enter the glass or plastic at an angle, one part of light reaches the lens before the others due to the changes in the speed of light travelling from one medium to another. a converging lens takes the light waves from all different angles and redirects them so they are all converging back to one place...hence the real image being formed. This is a very basic explanation but the theory is the same for camera phones |

I really hope this isn't serious, but.. There is usually a button on the side of your phone with a small picture of a camera on it, click that and then click it again to take the picture. My god. |

The typical camera phone utilizes a fixed focus lens design. The lens assembly consists of several components, this can be seen in the figure on the left. The first part is the 3 element lens, which consists of 1 glass and 2 plastic elements. This is then followed by an IR filter, the IR filter blocks any light above 780nm. By removing the light above 780nm the sensor is able to only focus what the eye is able to see |

The camera bit works like all cameras. Image forming mechanism (lens/ pinhole). Exposure control. Light sensitive surface (film/ electronic sensor) |

They take what you see in the display and turn it into an image file on your phone. From there, you may save the file, delete it, or save it for later viewing or sending. On many modern models, you may also use a special wire to transfer the file to your PC. |
